Chocolate Banana Bites

(Easy Frozen Healthy Treat Kids Love)

These chocolate banana bites were one of my favorite sweet treats growing up. I’d always ask my mom to make them—she usually dipped whole bananas in chocolate and rolled them in coconut.

Now as a mom, I’ve turned them into a simpler, kid-friendly version: sliced, bite-sized, and perfect for little hands (and little snack cravings).

There’s nothing fancy here—just real ingredients, a little mess, and a lot of chocolate joy. And I think… the rustic look is part of the charm.

A simple healthy-ish snack that actually feels like dessert

If you’re looking for an easy, better-for-you treat that kids can help make, these chocolate banana bites are it.

They’re:

  • Naturally sweet from ripe banana
  • Made with real chocolate
  • Fun for kids to dip, sprinkle, and freeze
  • Perfect straight from the freezer on warm days

No perfection needed—just melt, dip, sprinkle, and freeze.

Ingredients

  • Ripe bananas (not overly soft)
  • Good-quality chocolate chips (dark or semi-sweet)
  • Optional toppings: shredded coconut, crushed nuts, or sea salt

How to make chocolate banana bites

Enjoy straight from the freezer.

Slice bananas into coins and place on a parchment-lined tray.

Melt chocolate in short bursts in the microwave, stirring until smooth.

Spoon or drizzle chocolate over each banana slice.

Add toppings if using (coconut is my childhood favorite).

Freeze for 1–2 hours until firm.

Why I love making these with my kids

These are one of those recipes that don’t require precision—just participation. Kids love dipping, sprinkling, and “helping” (which usually means sneaking a few bites along the way).

It’s simple, nostalgic, and one of those snacks that disappears a little too quickly.

Tips for best results

Store in the freezer so they stay firm and snack-ready

Use bananas that are ripe but still firm (not mushy)

Don’t overthink the chocolate coating—rustic is good here

  • Author: Heather Love

Ingredients

  • Ripe bananas (firm, not overly soft)
  • Chocolate chips (dark or semi-sweet, your favorite kind)
  • Optional toppings: shredded coconut, crushed nuts, or a pinch of sea salt

Instructions

Step 1:
Line a sheet pan with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. Arrange sliced bananas in a single layer.

Step 2: Microwave method (easy version)
Add chocolate chips to a microwave-safe bowl. Heat in 30-second intervals, stirring between each round. Continue until the chocolate is fully melted and smooth.

Step 2: Stovetop method
Place chocolate chips in a heat-safe bowl over a small pot of simmering water (double boiler method). Stir gently until melted and silky smooth.

Step 3:
Spoon or spread melted chocolate over each banana slice. No need for perfection—messy and rustic works beautifully here.

Step 4:
Sprinkle with coconut flakes (or any toppings you love while the chocolate is still soft).

Step 5:
Freeze for 1–2 hours, or until firm. Enjoy straight from the freezer—so good.

Notes

Tips for best results

  • Use bananas that are ripe but still firm—this helps them hold their shape when dipped and frozen.
  • Keep the chocolate coating simple; it doesn’t need to be perfect. A rustic drizzle or dip gives them that homemade charm.
  • Store in the freezer so they stay firm, fresh, and snack-ready anytime.
