The aroma from homemade apple cider has a way of taking us back to the cool fall days. The smell from the apples, oranges and spices simmering on the stove reminds me that Thanksgiving is near!

One of my favorite parts of the fall is finding a cute pumpkin patch, taking some photos with the kids and trying not to take too many pumpkins home! Whether you are making jack-o-lanterns, making pumpkin pies, or just enjoying the cooler weather, you will love sipping on this homemade apple cider throughout your day. It’s warming, comforting, and will bring you all the fall feelings and flavors with one sip!

Health Benefits:

The base of this homemade apple cider is unpasteurized apple juice, which is loaded with nutrients! If you can get your hands on some unfiltered, even better, as the nutrients are even richer. The juice from apples is loaded with antioxidants which fight free radicals within the body. Micronutrients within the apples help lower bad cholesterol and the vitamin C not only strengthens the immune system but also aids in healthy, glowing skin! A sweet drink loaded with many benefits!

To Make:

In a large sauce pan, bring apple juice, sliced apple and orange, and spices to a low boil.
Reduce heat and simmer, stirring occasionally until the flavors combine, about 5-10 minutes. Serve warm!

Ingredients

  • 4 cups Cold-pressed or fresh-pressed, unfiltered apple juice
  • 1 crisp apple, thinly sliced
  • 1 orange, sliced
  • ½ tsp cardamom
  • ¼ tsp allspice
  • ¼ tsp cinnamon
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • pinch of cloves

Instructions

  1. In a large sauce pan, bring apple juice, sliced apple and orange, and spices to a low boil.
  2. Reduce heat and simmer, stirring occasionally until the flavors combine, about 5-10 minutes. Serve warm!
  3. *This makes 2-3 servings, if serving Thanksgiving morning you may want to double or triple the recipe!*
