Ever seen a pregnant girl run the Spartan? Ha. I personally had not! I’ve seen full mama belly’s run so gracefully, and while I can’t say I looked incredibly graceful while attempting these obstacles, I’m thankful I completed them! It was not my plan to run the Spartan while pregnant initially, I signed up before I knew, and once I found out, I was way too stubborn to not race. My husband and sister planned to run in the upcoming San Antonio Sprint, and I figured, if I trained, I could at least keep up…and I did! So if you are ever pregnant wondering if you should try a Spartan too, I’ll be your cheerleader, “Yes, you can!” I am not a naturally athletic person, so if I can do it, seriously, anyone can.
Health Benefits of staying Fit While Pregnant:
- Reduction of c-section rates & may shorten length of labor
- Appropriate weight gain for mama and baby
- May decrease risk of gestational diabetes and preeclampsia
- Improves baby’s brain activity from mom’s who worked out at least 20 minutes, 3x a week
- Strengthens baby’s heart rate before birth! New studies show that baby’s whose mom’s worked out on a regular basis had greater heart rate variability and slower pulses.
| How amazing is it that we can positively influence our baby’s cardiovascular health that stays with them after birth?! |
