I am sipping on this smoothie right now and feeling more energetic as I type!
Don’t worry, I won’t keep talking like when I drink coffee..or will I?
If you’re wondering what those pretty little yellow dots are, that is bee pollen! This is where most of the energy is coming from in this smoothie. I first tried bee pollen one late evening and let me advise you to not take this stuff at night…
My first date with bee pollen was an interesting experience. I was in Milan shopping at a health food store because, where else would I be? I had heard the many health benefits of this pollen and had to try for myself. I added a teaspoon of the cute yellow dots to my yogurt with fruit. It was maybe 10pm at night and I thought, what a great healthy dessert before bed!
The bee pollen must have been laughing at me because I stayed wide awake half the night and felt ready to run a marathon. Unfortunately, my roommate did not feel up to running a few miles with me at 2am
Slacker.
Because of my experience, I recommend you try this smoothie in the morning! According to Chinese Medicine, bee pollen is an energy and nutritive tonic. It is most used for endurance, vitality & longevity, reducing cravings, building new blood cells, a natural antibiotic, regulating the intestines, and aiding in recovery from chronic illnesses.
Wow!
I also mixed in frozen acai berry into this smoothie which has numerous antioxidants and more anthocyanins than red wine. This = anti-aging!
You can find frozen acai in the freezer section of most grocery stores these days.
Hope you enjoy!
PrintEnergy Boosting Acai Blueberry Smoothie
Ingredients
- 1 (3.5 oz) pack frozen Acai
- ½ cup blueberries (I used frozen)
- 1 ripe banana
- 1 cup orange juice
- ½ tsp bee pollen
Instructions
- Mix the above ingredients in a blender
- I would mix the bee pollen last as it starts to break down under heat, if you add it last, it won’t have to deal with the heat from the blender quite as long
